FRS Training blog posts
The first Free Smarter Milking event in association with FRS Training, Teagasc and AHI (Animal Health Ireland) took place on June 20th on Andrew Claxton’s farm, Kilminnin, Stradbally, Co. Waterford. The aim of the event was to bring dairy farmers practical demonstrations on how to achieve smarter milking and become more efficient and cost effective.
The workshop itself was run by Teagasc, FRS, AHI and facilitated on the Claxton farm by Glanbia. Over 200 people attended in the glorious sunshine and were treated to a concise two hour demonstration covering five milking related topics.
The topics covered were milk quality, cow flow, milking technique, standard operating procedures (S.O.P’s) and energy saving.
The Claxton family themselves also gave important personal input on the day, discussing their sop’s and colour coded milking aprons as means of communicating issues related to specific cows.
Sourcing of information shared at the event comes from the Best Practice in Milking course, which has been available to farmers since 2014 and has trained hundreds of new and experienced milkers throughout the country.
This popular 2 day QQI level 6 course is expertly developed and ran in conjunction with FRS Training, Teagasc and AHI and is part funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine.
