The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge,
skill and competence to identify and care for a range of common plants.

Learning Objectives

Learners will be able to: Identify a range of common plants State the main uses of a range of trees, shrubs and bedding plants Plant a range of common plants State the optimal growing conditions for a range of common trees, shrubs, bedding, vegetable and fruiting plants Water plants by a variety of methods, in a range of conditions and times of year Implement weed control by a variety of methods Demonstrate the procedures for protecting plants from damage by frost and wind Demonstrate the procedures for protecting plants from damage by pests and diseases Operate within appropriate safety procedures to create and maintain a safe working environment including safety standards regarding lifting, carrying and handling plants, tools and equipment.

Course Notes

All learning material will be provided to you for the duration of the course and you will be registered for certification though our centre

Successful applicants will receive a QQI level 4 minor award in Plant Identification, Care and maintenance. Successful completion of this component award enables the learner to transfer to programmes leading to other certificates where this component is a mandatory or an elective requirement.

Candidates must be over 16 years of age, will require a good command of the English language and have a good level of numeracy and literacy.
