Course Description
The QQI Healthcare Support Major Award is designed to give those wishing to work in the healthcare system a thorough grounding in the necessary skills. The course is relevant and highly practical, with each module focusing on a specific area of care.
To achieve the Healthcare Support Major Award (QQI Level 5) with FRS Training the following modules must be completed.
Care Skills 5N2770.
The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to care for clients in a safe and hygienic environment.
Care Support 5N0758
The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to work effectively in a care setting. It aims to promote good practice and respect for diversity in lifestyle, religion and culture in care work.
Safety and Health at Work 5N1794
The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to promote and maintain safety and health in a work environment.

Work Experience 5N1356
The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the relevant knowledge, skill and competence to participate in the workplace for a limited time, carrying out work-related tasks independently while under general direction. Scheduled as per group requirements.
Communications 5N0690
The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the relevant knowledge, skill and competence to communicate, verbally and non-verbally, in standard everyday tasks and in work-related tasks, operating independently while under general direction. Infection Prevention and Control 5N3734
The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to prevent and control infection within the health services area. Scheduled as per group requirements.
Care of the Older Person 5N2706
The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to meet the full range of needs of older people in a variety of care settings.

Palliative Care Support 5N3769
This programme has been designed to equip learners with the knowledge, skills and competence necessary to ensure that they will be able to care effectively, professionally and empathetically for people with life-limiting illnesses.
To achieve the Healthcare Support Level 5 Award through FRS Training, learners must successfully complete 5 mandatory modules; Care Support, Care Skills, Safety and Health at Work, Work Experience, and Communications and the three following elective modules: Care of the Older Person, Infection Prevention and Control & Palliative Care.
