FRS Training Updates
At FRS Training, our mission has always been to support safer farming practices across Ireland. That’s why we’re proud to announce that we’ve been chosen to deliver a new Farm Safety Awareness Programme to 700 secondary schools nationwide, in partnership with the Department of Agriculture Food and Marine
Farm Safety: Starting Early to Save Lives
Farming continues to be one of the most dangerous occupations in Ireland. So far in 2025, 16 people have lost their lives in farm accidents—surpassing last year’s total. Children and young people are particularly vulnerable. Since 2015, 12 people under the age of 18 have died in farm incidents, highlighting the urgent need for early intervention and education.
This new initiative is about changing that—by teaching essential farm safety skills before young people step into active roles on farms.
About the Programme
This school-focused programme will be delivered by FRS Training via two flexible formats:
- In-person sessions delivered directly in schools
- Online webinars, offering nationwide accessibility
The content will focus on high-risk areas including:
- Machinery and tractor safety
- Working with livestock
- Slurry and chemical handling
- Working at heights
- General hazard awareness
We’re also providing teacher guidance and classroom materials to ensure farm safety becomes a consistent, accessible topic in Irish schools.
Government Support & National Reach
The programme is being fully funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, making it completely free of charge to schools. It is available to all post-primary schools, whether or not they currently offer Agricultural Science.
Speaking about this programme Minister of State Michael Healy-Rae who overseas farm safety said: “This programme will contribute to a lifelong positive attitude to farm safety. Students will become more aware and will bring that awareness home to their families”
FRS Training’s Ben Fearn added, “We’re building a stronger culture of safety for the next generation of farmers”
